Clip Trick: DBM's Release Clips

Deep Blue Marine's Quick Clip

Want to add to your boat’s spread, without drilling more holes in the fiberglass? It’s a piece of cake with Deep Blue Marine’s Quick Clips.

These flat line release clips are mounted on poly bases which have three strong suction cups. You can stick them on most flat surfaces, including the top or sides of an outboard motor cowl. I tried sticking one on top of an outboard to get another flat line in the water, and discovered that the Quick Clip stays put, even when striking fish pop the clip open. Just in case the suction cups let go there's a hole built into the unit for a safety lanyard. Traveling anglers who sometimes hop aboard poorly rigged boats will also find these useful, since they'll be able to add flat line clips wherever they like.

I have to admit that after a few trips I got lazy, and stopped securing a safety lanyard to the clips. Yet after a full season offshore, I never lost either one. If you need a pair of flat line release clips and you don’t want to drill more holes on your boat, or if you want a center clip that’ll stick to your outboard cowl, these things are the way to go.

Price: $25

The Highs: They work!

The Lows: none.

Who Wants It: Guys who fish on different boats at different times, or those who refuse to drill holes in the transom for a pair of flat line clips.
