Flying High: Frenzy Ballistic Flying Fish
If it swims in the ocean, it probably eats flying fish—tunas, billfish, wahoo, whatever. You can match the hatch with Frenzy Big Game Tackle’s Ballistic Flying Fish. This soft plastic lure comes pre-rigged, has life-like wings, and goggle-eyes. Many guys will simply let it back into the spread, where it skips along the surface like the real thing. But if you want to really slam the fish, you’ll rig it up as a “dangler,” 15’ in front of a chugger—that sends yellowfin over the edge.
There are other fake flying fish in the tackle shops, so why go with a Ballistic? Frankly, all of the plastic flying fish look pretty good. But two things separate this product from the competition: first off, it’s one molded piece, so those toothy pelagics will find it more difficult to disassemble. Secondly, it costs less then most competitors.
Price: $15
The Highs: Looks like the real thing, and it’s a killer as a dangler lure.
The Lows: None.
Who Wants It: Anyone with room in the spread for a flying fish or two.
