Green Lantern: Optronics Fish-N-Light

If you like night fishing as much as I do, they you’ve already spent big bucks on a Hydroglow, or a Green Magnet. But what about the guy that only goes night fishing once or twice a year? For him, it’s a stretch to spend hundreds of dollars on a fish-attracting light. Enter Optronics, which offers a much less expensive alternative in their LED Fish-N-Light.

The light has 16 LEDs inside, which shine on a reflective silver spine. This increases the light’s glow, while burning through significantly less power than a fluorescent light. The coolest thing about the Fish-N-Light? It’s modular—you can add additional candle-power simply by buying a ($27/2-pack) extension, which can be used to expand the 1’10” light up to 6’ long. So—does it work? I found it a great fish-attractor, and although it doesn’t produce nearly the same amount of light as a big-dollar fluorescent, considering the massive cost-savings it’s a good choice for the casual night angler. The original Fish-N-Light has worked like a charm for two seasons now, but early in the second season, one of the modular add-ons sprung a leak. Luckily, it’s easily replaceable.

Price: $35

The Highs: Draws in fish like a magnet.

The Lows: Not as bright as a fluorescent, and one section leaked early in its second season.

Who Wants It: The occasional night fishermen on a tight budget.
