Sufix Fluorescent Neon Fire and Hi-Vis Performance Braid
If you like fishing with braid and you also like kite fishing, you’re in a quandary: it’s virtually impossible to see braid as it dangles down from a kite. Some trollers also like to be able to eyeball their lines as they trail behind the boat, and again, if you’re fishing with braid you’re out of luck in this regard. Sufix set out to solve this dilemma with their Fluorescent Neon Fire and Hi-Vis Performance Braids. The Neon Fire bright orange line is easy to see up (at 100’ away, even with my old eyes, following it from the transom to the kite to the water was no problem) and since the dyneema itself is colored, it can’t be washed away like the coatings used on some braids. Hi-Vis yellow, a more traditionally colored high visibility line, is also easy to spot from a distance. Remember that this is specifically for kite fishing and some trolling applications - if you’re spooling up a multi-function rig that will be used for jigging, chunking, and other methods of fishing, you may want to look at some different options.
Fluorescent Neon Fire is available in a wide range of tests, from six to 130-lb. test, and in varying spool sizes from 150- to 3,500-yards. Hi-Vis Performance starts at 20-lb. test and goes up to 130, and is also available in small or bulk spools. This stuff doesn’t come cheap—it breaks down to more than a dime a yard, about double the cost of some monofilaments—but is priced competitively with other braids. Knotting, casting, and memory characteristics were all in line with other braids.
Price: $20 and up, depending on test and spool size.
The Highs: Braid you can see from long distances.
The Lows: You’ll need to add a mono top-shot or long leader, so the hi-vis line doesn’t tip off the fish.
Who Wants It: Kite fishermen who like braid; anglers who want hi-vis but no stretch.
