Yo-Zuri HD Carbon Leader: Knot a Problem
What’s the worst problem with fluorocarbon line? It’s stiff and brittle by nature. This won’t be a problem if you fish with Yo-Zuri’s new HD Carbon fluorocarbon leaders. I used this stuff (40-lb. test) for several fishing trips in the inlet and found that my knots pulled down clean and uniform, and the line held little memory from the spool—in fact, it was the softest flouro I’ve ever fished with. Its biggest claim to fame, however, is the pink color. Reds are the first shades to be absorbed in the water column, so this stuff should be hard to see. Bluefish and rockfish certainly had trouble seeing it, during my test.
The spool has a small plastic lip that keeps line from running off, so you can drop it in your pocket and strip it off as needed. The price isn’t ridiculous, either, which is unusual for fluorocarbon. Problems, solved!
Price: $8 and up (depending on pound-test).
The Highs: Finally, a fluoro that knots easily and doesn’t spring off the spool.
The Lows: None.
Who Wants It: Anglers who tie their own fluorocarbon leaders.
